Traffic

TrafficTThree Academy Awards, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Editing is usually a lot of hype especially to a movie buff like me. Especially with a cast including Michael Douglas, Benicio Del Toro and Catherine-Zeta Jones, I found myself lining up to score a balcony ticket. Traffic's story basically revolves around the story of drugs, Douglas as the newly appointed head of the government's department against narcotics, Del Toro as a small town policeman whose life turns around when he gets involved in the Mexican drug cartel and Zeta-Jones, an unwitting wife of a drug smuggling boss in the US. I wasn't bored at all because of the cool scene switching effects used. The scenes in Mexico where done in sepia connoting a craggy persona of the place and the people. I was a bit disappointed though because I expected a lot of action in this movie. All I got was walking and talking. I thought Michael Douglas as the statesman and the family man was the flick's softer side, while the scenes in Mexico were the opposite.

What was notable in the movie though is how it depicted the effect of drugs to the middle class family. It shows how rebellious the youth can be. And this rebellion can go overboard resulting to rehab or even overdose.

I recommend that this movie be viewed with your nephews and nieces.
